Position: Maintenance Repairman



Location: Calgary

 
 
 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Maintenance Repairman is responsible for all repairs and maintenance in the facility.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Details of Position

  1. Daily inspection of plant equipment
  2. Housekeeping duties in maintenance shop
  3. General maintenance of plant facility
  4. Repair hand and power tools and electric tools
  5. Repair and maintain plant equipment
  6. Plumbing repairs
  7. Maintain and repair cranes
  8. Heating repairs
  9. Install/repair/maintain steam equipment
  10. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations; as well as, the Company Health and Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  11. Promote Armtec’s EVERYBODY | EVERYWHERE | EVERYTIME safety vision

This position reports to the   

Plant Foreman

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/CHALLENGES

  1. Working knowledge of any of the following hand/power tools and equipment: cranes, forklifts, shears, drills, grinders, pressure washer, stressing pumps, air tools, man lifts, meters and test equipment, and various other electrical tools
  2. Operate man lift, Overhead Crane and Forklift – an asset
  3. Basic hydraulic system knowledge – an asset
  4. Welding and Ironworker knowledge – an asset
  5. Actively participate in Health and Safety Program

FUNCTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Fifth Class Power Engineer (Required)
  2. Ability to do Shift Work (24 hour shift schedule)
  3. Overhead Crane Operator’s Certificate an asset
  4. Forklift Operator’s Certificate an asset
  5. On the job experience in the field
  6. Willingness to learn and participate in on the spot training
  7. Mechanically inclined
  8. Mathematically inclined
  9. Trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
  10. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  11. Superior hand/eye coordination – good vision
  12. Blueprint reading interpretation
  13. Electrical and machine operation knowledge an asset
  14. Reliable work habits and attendance – flexible work schedule

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Ensure plant facilities are maintained and operating efficiently
  2. Ensure power tools are in good working order and safely maintained
  3. Ensure job procedures are in place if unavailable create new procedures

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort

  • Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to push and/or pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Majority of time is spent standing while working with frequent opportunity to move around
  • Sustained work in uncomfortable body conditions (squatting, crawling, kneeling, etc.) may be required for the task at hand
  • Full range of motion and use of both arms and hands is a necessity

Physical Environment

  • Typical plant and yard conditions apply – dust, noise, varying temperatures, etc.
  • May be required to work at heights or in confined spaces
  • Required to wear a respirator from time to time

Sensory Environment

  • Attention to detail and focus on the task at hand is extremely important
